Since I'm going back to bed, I figure this year is over

Okay, Functionally Literates, raise a glass for the MathNerd tonight. My only alcohol will be the not-inconsequential dollop in my cold medicine. Since I'm too sick for original thoughts, here's the 2004 meme that everyone else has already done:
1. What did you do in 2004 that you'd never done before?
Went caucusing.

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I'm always torn between the secular and religious new year, and just forget to resolve anything, ever.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
No.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
2004 isn't over yet, but knock wood.

5. What countries did you visit?
I've got a pied-a-terre in DeNial, and I went to South Dakota for the first time.

6. What would you like to have in 2005 that you lacked in 2004?
Downtime.

7. What date from 2004 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
All the events are dateless...rather like me....

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Well, I’m an ABC “Person of the Year," along with millions of other people.... Huh...it’s been a pretty plod-dy year, hasn’t it?

9. What was your biggest failure?
Failing to have a big achievement, I think.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Pulled a boob, boiled my hand

11. What was the best thing you bought?
Gilmore Girls DVDs? Man, I'm sad.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
The MusicNerd graduated from college...?

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
He-who-shall-not-be-named (but isn't anyone I dated, for a change).

14. Where did most of your money go?
Car repairs. Yuck.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
The quirkyalone revolution.

16. What song will always remind you of 2004?
Lucy Kaplansky's "This Is Home"

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? sadder
ii. thinner or fatter? thinner, everyone says
iii. richer or poorer? richer

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Working on my thesis. Seriously.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Drinking. Sorry, Cindy, but it's true.

22. Did you fall in love in 2004?
No. Not even a crush.

23. How many one-night stands?
None. Sadly.

24. What was your favorite TV program?
Jeez, people, this is on the quiz .

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Yeah, everyone in AMS interest area 13.

26. What was the best book you read?
Julia Alvarez's new book of poetry

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
My stereo is dead. Well, it was really my crappiest musical discovery, but it was still huge.

28. What did you want and get?
Long hair? Oh, and an invite to do an illegal thing (which I haven’t done yet)

30. What was your favorite film of this year?
Since it was Shark Tale, you know it's been a rough year

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
Don't celebrate it, and 26

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
More work. More work done, that is.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2004?
Is it clean?

34. What kept you sane?
It can be argued that I wasn’t sane to start with!

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Chris Heinz finally knocked Kerry Wood off his pedestal.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
Revamping the Health Care system.

37. Who did you miss?
The MusicNerd and Eclectic Enigma, of course!

38. Who was the best new person you met?
Everyone at SMP! Miss you girls! Wow, that was sappy.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2004:
Hmm...maybe my lack of learning should be the year’s big failure.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
”It's been a long December and there's reason to believe/maybe this year will be better than the last” –Counting Crows, “A Long December” (well, I think. "It's been a long December" means it's now January, right? And so the upcoming year, 2005, will be better than 2004? Right? This is why grammar is important…and why vague grammar makes your pop song speak to more people).
