Year End Meme

So what if I'm the only person in the blogosphere who still does this? It’s an unbreakable tradition by now, dammit .

1. What did you do in 2011 that you'd never done before?
Uh…where to begin?

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Shocked myself by completing a surprising number of items from the 2011 Challenge. I’ll be applying the lessons I learned from that goal-setting exercise to improving my luck with #23.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
No, and let’s keep it that way.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
I am more than a little shocked at the number of GrandNerds who survived the year.

5. What countries did you visit?
It was not a year for travel of the physical kind.

6. What would you like to have in 2012 that you lacked in 2011?
See #23. It’s time to start dating. (How the hell does that work, again?)

7. What date from 2011 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
I’m told everyone at my company can recite their start date, so I guess that will be it.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
New job, new life, new place, new outlook, and let’s not forget the new and truly awesome haircut. Oh yeah, and I can run a 10K.

9. What was your biggest failure?
We failed each other, and I have to find a way to live with that.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
You could argue that this was the year I got better.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
A messenger-bag style lunch kit.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
You know what? I’m gonna go there. Mine did.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Sometimes mine. And sometimes someone else’s.

Rebuilding and redecorating. Also, running shoes.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
The River Run. Also, There.

16. What song will always remind you of 2011?
“Me Party” from The Muppets. My life is a party just for one, and a damn fun shindig.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? Happier.
ii. thinner or fatter? Thinner. Thrillingly so.
iii. richer or poorer? Richer, in so many ways.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
See #23.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?

20. What was the best thing you ate?
Indian food for Thanksgiving.

22. Did you fall in love in 2011?

23. How many one-night stands?
Not nearly enough.

24. What was your favorite TV program?
Spent most of the year without a TV. It was kind of nice, but I’m glad I bought a Sony before the Best. World. Series. Ever. (Until the Cubs are in, of course.)

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?

26. What was the best book you read?
The Hunger Games trilogy.

My new life.

29. What did you want and not get?
The last five years of my life, back.

Moneyball was amazing…and I got to see it for work. (Have I mentioned that I love my job?)

See #23. Am I kidding?

That Damn Cat. Dammit.

38. Who was the best new person you met?
My stylist, though I desperately wanted to give him a measuring tape for Hanukkah.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2011:
Can I substitute two lessons that I hope I’m learning? “If something isn’t happening, you’re not ready for it”* adjoined to “When nothing happens a) you still have to pay, b) count your lucky stars, c) replace the battery, d) something is happening, but very, very slowly.” **

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year: “My life is working better now/It all was changing anyhow….” Dar Williams, “Farewell to the Old Me”
