Year In Review, 2012

So what if I'm the only person in the blogosphere who still does this? It’s a
completely unbreakable tradition by now >dammit.

1. What did you do in 2012 that you'd never done before?
Spring Training—with field passes!!!!!!

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
While not the stunning success of the 2011 Challenge, I managed to try a few new things. Heh.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
OMG, Fertile Myrtles, give it up already.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
Not yet, but a rough year in the universe. We're not all 27 anymore.

5. What countries did you visit?
Pretty sure the cousin’s wedding in the Deep South and the business trip to the Nation-State really took me to other planets….

6. What would you like to have in 2013 that you lacked in 2012?
Confidence that I’m living my life, and not chasing a life someone else expects me to live.

7. What date from 2012 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
This was one of those years when I had trouble remembering the date. (Y'all thought I was going to make a #23 joke here, didn't you?)

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Um, see last year’s #23.

9. What was your biggest failure?
I probably should have finished my prelim exams this year. Maybe I would have, if The Boss respected my study time.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
I may have to finally admit to a medical professional that there is something wrong with most parts of my left leg. Eventually.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
Every time I pull out my Kindle Fire, I imagine I’m Kathryn Janeway. Holy crap, I just figured out its name!

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
JQ and her Culinary Husband, of course!

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
I’m sorry, do y’all remember the Senate races in the Midwest?

14. Where did most of your money go?
Now that I’m tallying it up, I’ve spend a shocking amount on plane, train, and intercity bus fare. Go me.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Spinning, specifically Marty’s grunge soundtrack and the introduction of Live DJ Spin.

16. What song will always remind you of 2012?
Um, that insipid “I’m glad you came, so glad you came” song played at the gym a lot.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? Happier.
ii. thinner or fatter? Not sure.
iii. richer or poorer? Richer, in so many ways.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
See #23.

Studying for actuarial exams.

Passing the Moonshine jar with the family.

22. Did you fall in love in 2012?
No.

23. How many one-night stands?
More than last year.

Downton Abbey. Be sure to let me know if you’d like to join the Facebook party!

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
‘Bama Cousin’s despicable cousin-outing new wife. (Wow, I never wrote about the weekend in ‘Bama, did I?)

26. What was the best book you read?
We Killed.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Uh...uh...oh crap.

Cashmere sweater tights?

30. What was your favorite film of this year?
Guess who didn’t go to the movies. At ALL.

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
Took in a Cubs game with the DadNerd. And I’ve been telling everyone I’m 27, so let’s just pretend that’s the truth.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Follow-through.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2012?
Sweater dresses and sweater tights…I look like I’m all dressed up, but I feel like I’m wearing long johns!

34. What kept you sane?
Let's hear it for the fancy new gym.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Well, there was the semi-smashed facebook gushing over the Vice President…

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
For one last time, dear President Obama, thank you for keeping my job incredibly relevant and interesting (or, hell, for convincing my company that creating my job was a good plan).

37. Who did you miss?
Whenever I meet up with the Ace Gang, I realize how much it sucks that we're all spread out.

38. Who was the best new person you met?
The Hot BA. Sadly, not a recurring character. Alternately, the New Mathematicians.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2012:
Before you invite someone over on Saturday night, consider who you’re meeting for brunch on Sunday morning. (That’s the sanitized version. ‘Nuff said?)

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year: “I was so much older then/I’m younger than that now…” –The Byrds.
